Annika Billstam has been working very hard with sprint this year and really wanted to run that at the Championships. The Swede didn’t get selected for the sprint, but the long instead, and won her first Championships gold.
18/08/2011 || An incredible 30 seconds ||Arena||
With a flag in his hand and with big applause from thousands of spectators, Thierry Gueorgiou ran into the arena to take his first gold on the long distance.
“The last 30 seconds of the race I will remember for always”, smiles Thierry.
He was the big favourite on the long distanc,e a distance he had not got a World Championships gold on earlier, and it ended with a very clear victory. The Frenchman was 4.27 minutes faster than second best Pasi Ikonen from Finland.
