Nordberg – bigger challenge than on home ground

Anders Nordberg sees a bigger challenge in this year’s championships than last year’s when they were in his home country.

“Now it is challenging terrain that nobody has been in before. It wasn’t mapped earlier either. It’s equal for all and this makes it top-class orienteering”, he says.

Of course it was a very successful home championship for Anders last year when he got silver on the long distance, but the terrain was not that unknown. It had been mapped and used for orienteering several times. “Here it is tough to be an orienteer”, the Norwegian says.

In the event so far, Anders has done well. The new father (he and Anne Margrethe Hausken got their first child, Tarjei, in June) won his heat in the middle qualification. “It’s always good to do well and I hope to fight for gold. That’s always the goal, but any medal will also be good”, he says.

The rest of the family is at home and doing well. Anne Margrethe has started running regularly again. Later in the autumn she hopes to start in the Norwegian championships.
