The Swedish women have done really well on the middle distance qualification, with one heat winner and two second places.
“Well, there are possibilities to fight for the gold”, says Annika Billstam, who was just 4 seconds down on Minna Kauppi in her heat. She is leading the World Cup standings overall, and won a bronze medal in the long distance in 2008. Now she is in even better form.
“I feel I know what to do get a gold.”
And what is that?
“I need to concentrate on the orienteering, and do that well.”
Lena Eliasson was the heat winner and Helena Jansson was in second place. The sprint winner from 2009 has not been able to prepare well this year, with a lot of injuries. – Since the end of June I have trained well, and it has been wonderful to run the qualifications. Now I am looking forward to making this the best week of the summer – for me, she says.
