Daniel Hubmann has at last won a World Championships sprint gold medal. “I have been working hard to get it”, he says.
The Swiss phantom had a very good race, and heard when he passed the arena somebody yelling that he was leading. “I understood that a gold could be possible”, he says.
The old city of Chambery had been open for competitors to walk around until the last few days. Daniel has visited the city several times. “I have been walking round four or five times. It’s good to get some kind of feel of how it looks, but in the end all that is needed is on the map”, he says.
He has World Championship gold medals in both long distance and relay, and he has been working hard to get a sprint gold as well. “The first gold was of course very special for me, but this gold is also special for me. For me there isn’t any difference in the status of the distances”, he says.
In the men’s class there were two Swiss among the three best. Last year’s winner Matthias Müller got the bronze medal.
A bit differently from some other countries, there is a big focus on sprint in Switzerland. The best runners are always running both in forest and sprint environments. “I have always wanted to win it”, he says.
