Danish champion in one discipline, bronze medallist at World Championships in another discipline – Søren Saxtorph, Denmark, has tried them all. Our newest Athlete of the Month is an elite trail orienteer who was very close to winning gold in the World Championships in Trondheim last year.

When the new Competition Rules for IOF Trail Orienteering Events came into effect 1 February 2011, also the rules for the Team Competition changed. Here is a short summary of the changes.

Marika Hara, Finland and Erik Skovgaard Knudsen, Denmark are the two leaders in the World Cup standings after the first three races held in Hungary at the weekend.

Rikke Kornvig and Erik Skovgaard Knudsen made it a special day for Danish mountain bike orienteering, both winning comfortably in the mass start long distance race, the final race of the first round in Hungary.

Ingrid Stengård, Finland and Anton Foliforov, Russia enjoyed convincing victories in the middle distance race, the second race in the Hungary round of the World Cup.

Erik Skovgaard Knudsen, World Cup series winner in 2010, started his 2011 campaign in the best possible way with a victory in the first race this year, a sprint in the town of Tapolca in Hungary. Marika Hara, Finland, third in the World Cup last year, won the women’s race.

On the occasion of the International World Games Association (IWGA) Annual General Meeting at the 2011 SportAccord in London, the President of IWGA, Ron Froehlich, appointed the IOF Honorary President Sue Harvey IWGA Honorary Member.
