MTBO World Cup: Danish double win in long distance

Rikke Kornvig and Erik Skovgaard Knudsen made it a special day for Danish mountain bike orienteering, both winning comfortably in the mass start long distance race, the final race of the first round in Hungary.
Kornvig, a consistently strong rider who was fourth overall in last year’s World Cup and took the silver medal in the World MTB Orienteering Championships middle distance race (and gold in the relay), won today with a margin of 1.23 over Marika Hara, Finland, with Michaela Gigon, Austria third a further 1.22 down.
Knudsen, World Cup winner overall last year and winner of Friday’s sprint, led by a whole 2 minutes and 13 seconds at the finish today. Second place went to Marek Pospisek, one of several strong Czech competitors at the event, and third place was taken by Ruslan Gritsan, Russia, finishing 6 seconds down on Pospisek.
Marika Hara was the best of the women over the 3 races with one victory and 2 second places, whilst Erik Skovgaard Knudsen with his 2 wins was the best of the men.
