24/05/2016 || EOC Long Distance: wins for Tove Alexandersson and Daniel Hubmann ||Arena, News||
The two big favourites for victory today turned out also to be the clear winners, Alexandersson by 41 seconds and Hubmann by 1.22. This was Tove Alexandersson’s first international championships gold medal; for Daniel Hubmann it was the fourth in a European Championships and third at Long Distance – the others were in 2010 and 2014.

Both Norway and Russia had two heat winners in today’s qualification races over Long Distance at Bilá Voda, Czech Republic, where the men’s race in particular was hard with only one athlete finishing in under 70 minutes. The other two heat winners were from the home country and Switzerland.

For Matthias Kyburz it was of course great to get the first individual gold at the European Championships, but there is something else that is a bigger goal for him in the Czech Republic.

The Sprint gold medals have been won today by the Swiss pair Judith Wyder and Matthias Kyburz in two very close races in the hilly town of Jesenik, Czech Republic. It was a very successful day overall for the Swiss team, with four men in the first six in the results list.

In an exciting Sprint Relay in which the lead changed several times, it was a triumph for the Russian team, which put in the steadiest performance overall and won by 14 seconds. World champion nation Denmark took silver, and Switzerland bronze. Both Norway and Sweden were disqualified.

Tove Alexandersson, Sweden and Matthias Kyburz, Switzerland: two very well-known names heading the World Cup standings after Round 1, just completed in Poland. Alexandersson was the overall women’s winner last year whilst Kyburz was number two in the men’s list.

Wojciech Kowalski had big expectations at the start, and the team got a good finish – sixth in the Sprint Relay. The Polish team are eager for much more on home ground.

Rahel Friederich saw Helena Jansson several times during her last-leg run, but felt she had the strength to keep her at bay on the last leg of the Sprint Relay.
02/05/2016 || Switzerland win Sprint Relay in tight finish ||Arena, News||
Rahel Friederich, Switzerland reached the finish line just 4 seconds ahead of Helena Jansson, Sweden at the end of a fast and furious Sprint Relay in Trzebnica, Poland this afternoon. The Swiss team led throughout, with Judith Wyder just ahead of the pack at the end of the first leg. Denmark took third place.

On Saturday, Marika Teini had to retire from her race due to a health problem. But on Sunday, Marika got up to the podium for the first time in an individual World Cup race.
