In the shortened Middle Distance race at Holmenkollen today, Thierry Gueorgiou, France, showed that he is back on his best form after injury in the middle of the season, winning the 4.9 km course (with 290 m climb) by 42 seconds, in a time of exactly 29 minutes. Simone Niggli, Switzerland added another impressive victory to her long list of World Cup successes this season; her win today was by 1.19.

01/09/2012 || Nordic Tour: Niggli and Lundanes win Holmenkollen Sprint ||News||
The first of the Nordic Tour events took place today at the Holmenkollen Ski Centre in Oslo. Sprint qualification races this morning were followed this afternoon by the finals, competed in by the 30 fastest in the morning races. The finals were won by Simone Niggli, Switzerland and Olav Lundanes, Norway.

24-year-old Lizzie Ingham finished 9th in this year’s World Orienteering Championships Sprint, the best-ever result by a New Zealand orienteer at senior level. This is however far from the end of her ambitions: our Athlete of September aims to be on the podium at the World Cup start next year in New Zealand, and amongst the best of the world in the long term. “The latter is a long-term goal; I want to be remembered for consistently good results over my career, not just a one-off result!”, Lizzie says.
