Stand-up acclaim for Simone Niggli

The speaker asked all the spectators to stand up to acclaim Simone Niggli’s success today. Simone again ran a superb race, but the World Cup races today and on the coming days are a bit different from the biggest occasion of the year.
“WOC was of course something special, being on home ground, but the World Cup is not as important to me as it used to be”, she says.
She has won the World Cup seven times overall and in July she won her 20th WOC gold. She is also a mother of three. Her husband Matthias is at home taking care of them. He is the Head Coach for Switzerland, but this week the Swiss team has to manage without him.
In the national cross-country skiing stadium Holmenkollen in Oslo, the Swiss star spoke about her good race, and even though she achieved her usual result, it was also something different.
“It’s always a different course”, she says. “And it was nice to run here and to finish in the stadium”.
