This is a reminder about the IOF 50th Anniversary Compass Project. When heading to the World Orienteering Championships in France or to the World MTB Orienteering Championships in Italy, please remember to pack with you any old compasses, pin punches and control flags that you no longer use.

The IOF celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, and the occasion will be marked by a special ceremony to be held at 12:30 on Friday 19th August, in the race arena immediately before the start of the middle distance finals.

IOF FootO Event Advisers’ Clinics have been successfully organised in Pecs, Hungary; Curitiba/Parana, Brazil and Bollnäs/Mohed, Sweden this summer. The clinics had altogether 75 participants from 16 different countries including Australia, Japan, Serbia, Argentina, Moldova and Belgium.

When the World Orienteering Championships were last held in France in 1987, eight-year-old Thierry Gueorgiou witnessed Kent Olsson win gold on classic distance, and decided he would become a World Champion too. Now, 24 years later it is Thierry’s turn to show what he can – when the World Championships for the second time take place in France.
