An all-out sprint between the Russian Andrey Lamov and the Swede Ulrik Nordberg over the latter stages of the final leg ended in the narrowest of victories for the Russian team. The bronze medals went to Finland.

Tove Alexandersson, Sweden and Andrey Lamov, Russia are the new European Champions in Sprint after today’s first race of the Championships, held in perfect conditions in Imatra, Finland.

The first major international Ski Orienteering event of the season, the European Championships, gets under way this week in Imatra, Finland, with 106 competitors from 16 nations competing for the European titles. The Junior World, World Masters and European Youth Championships will be held concurrently at the same venue.

Finland with seven and Sweden with six gained the biggest gold medal hauls in the twenty-three competitive classes in today’s Long Distance Final in Estonia. Gold medals went to eleven nations in all.

The Swiss junior team completed a highly successful week by winning both of today’s Relays – the women by a massive 4.52 and the men by 2.28.
14/07/2016 || Orhan Kutlu: first Turkish athlete in a JWOC A Final ||Arena, News||
Today Orhan Kutlu ran the Middle Distance final, the first Turkish athlete to ever do so in a Junior World Orienteering Championships. After a very clear race he finished 37th, only 4:44 after the winner.
14/07/2016 || Middle Final: second gold for Aebersold, win this time for Curiger ||Arena, News||
Simona Aebersold, already Sprint champion, added the Middle title today with another emphatic win, this time by 1.50. Thomas Curiger and Joey Hadorn exchanged places compared to the other two individual finals, with Curiger on this occasion taking the gold.

Anna Haataja had to wait for some hours before she could get tears of happiness in her eyes. In her fourth JWOC she at last achieved the gold. Joey Hadorn won his second gold medal in under 30 hours.
