26/03/2006 || New world elite events programme in foot orienteering: IOF appoints organisers for World Cup events in 2007 ||News||
The World Cup programme in 2007 will include 10 races. The programme is based on the World Orienteering Championships in Ukraine, and on a number of races held as part of already existing, high-quality events in Finland, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland.

The IOF Foot-O Commission has decided to make an adjustment to the weightings attached to the most prestigious races in the international calendar. The change is being made to increase the precision of the World Rankings so that the system reflects the athletes’ performances as much as possible.

Victor Korchagin, world champion in the long distance format in Austria in 1998, skiied his way to the gold medal position in M35 in this year’s World Masters Ski Orienteering Championships, held in conjunction with the second round of the World Cup in Latvia.

By the application deadline of 31 January 2006, France and Norway have submitted their bids to organise the World Orienteering Championships in 2010 and 2011.

The Ski Orienteering Commission (SOC) has discussed several different ways of replacing the cancelled races of the first World Cup round in Finland and concluded that the only viable option would be to add a sprint race to the programme of the second World Cup round in Latvia.
