Ionut Zinca made Romanian orienteering history by finishing fifth in the World Orienteering Championships sprint last year in Chambery, France. For those who know orienteering it was no surprise though; Zinca has achieved good results in IOF Events for several years now. But how did he come here, from a small town of Plopeni in Romania to the podium in France? And what are his plans for this season?

An updated overview of future European Championships has been posted on the Europe page of the IOF website. The Annual Meeting of the orienteering federations in Europe (OFE) will appoint further organisers for season 2014 at the upcoming World Orienteering Championships in Lausanne, Switzerland.
25/03/2012 || World Cup victories for Engström and Tunis ||News||
Josefine Engström, Sweden and Staffan Tunis, Finland are this year’s overall winners in the Ski Orienteering World Cup. Both finished the season in the most emphatic way possible by winning their classes in the Final, an ultra-long distance race with winning times of over 2 hours for the women and 2½ hours for the men, by more than 2 minutes.

The last but one race in this year’s Ski Orienteering World Cup, over Middle distance, was distinguished by a tie for first place in the men’s class, Sweden’s Peter Arnesson and Erik Rost both registering 38:16. A good day for Sweden saw Josefine Engström winning the women’s race by 19 seconds.

Sweden led throughout in the relay races today in the final round of the Ski Orienteering World Cup at Boden, Sweden. Their women finished 2.24 ahead of Norway, whilst the men were 50 seconds in front of Finland.

The deadline for proposals from member federations to the IOF General Assembly 2012 was 20 March. By the deadline, the IOF received five proposals on three different topics.
21/03/2012 || Swedes take top two spots in Sprint ||News||
The Final Round of Ski Orienteering World Cup 2012 started today with Sprint in Boden, Sweden. Erik Rost, third in the World Cup standings after three Rounds, won the men’s race 2 seconds before his compatriot Peter Arnesson.
