Start slots for the World MTB Orienteering Championships 2013 long distance final have now been allocated. On top of the federations’ slots, the reigning Junior and Senior Long Distance World Champions will have personal start slots.

As anticipated, the knock-out sprint in Sigtuna today was thrilling to the last, with the lead changing several times in the Final and at the end one-second victories for Emma Klingenberg, Denmark and Fabian Hertner, Switzerland.

Turkey will be hosting the XVII Mediterranean Games at the end of this month in Mersin. This time orienteering will also be present at the Mediterranean Games as a promotional event titled ‘Sprint Orienteering – Race to the Olympics’.

Several less well-known names figured on the podium in today’s middle distance race, but Simone Niggli was again in a class of her own, winning the women’s race in wet conditions in Oslo today by more than 1½ minutes. The men’s race was won by home runner Carl Godager Kaas.

Orienteering World Cup 2013 Round 2, Nordic Tour, will kick off this weekend, 1-2 June, in Oslo, Norway. Live streaming from the Sprint and Middle distance events will be provided by the the Norwegian broadcasting company NRK.

The SportAccord General Assembly has just elected Marius Vizer (President of the International Judo Federation) new President of SportAccord. Vizer succeeds Hein Verbruggen, who decided to step down as President.
