The World Orienteering Championships and World Trail Orienteering Championships are attracting a record number of countries to Italy this summer.

The IOF Foot Orienteering Commission (FOC) was asked earlier this year by the IOF Council to further develop the programme of the Junior World Orienteering Championships (JWOC). The project group’s report should be presented to the Council by October 2014. Introduction of a possible new programme should take place by 2018 at the latest.

Catherine Taylor took a surprise bronze medal to Great Britain in the European Championships long distance race. She has been close to the top before, but this was her first international medal.

The IOF World Ranking Scheme Rules valid from 1 January 2014 have now been supplemented with details regarding MTB Orienteering World Ranking Events.

Following the successful ski orienteering event at the the 52nd Military World Ski Championships, the IOF has now received formal information from CISM that ski orienteering will be on the programme of the 53rd Military World Ski Championships as well.

Finland’s first team, favourites to win the mixed relay, came into the finish today in the anticipated first place with a good margin down to second-placed France. Czech Republic took third position.
