You can’t ring Minna!

Minna Kauppi is one of those orienteers who has become a national star in her home country. That has given the whole WOC a lot of extra publicity and interest.
In just the last couple of months, the Finnish Federation has had four–five requests for an interview with Minna Kauppi every week.
60 Finnish journalists and photographers are following WOC, and a lot of them are especially interested in how Minna Kauppi is doing in her running. She is a big Finnish hope and she is also one of the most popular sportswomen in Finland.
Minna is special for giving WOC extra interest in Finland because she has given the sport a face. It’s also very good to have for getting interest for the TV coverage from the championships.
Three years ago Kauppi started to have a secret mobile number. That’s why the Federation gets many requests to write stories about her, but somebody is probably still able to make a direct link to her. Recently there has also been extra publicity because the well-known drummer Simo Santapukki is now her partner.
On Sunday she started her WOC by coming third in one of the qualification groups. She is of course ready for the Long distance final on Tuesday. She will not take part in the sprint, but the 30 year old athlete will compete in all the other races.
When there was a Finnish press conference on Saturday with about 30 media people present, she said her goal was to get the Finnish flag up in the wind. That’s mean at least a place among the three best, for the woman who already has nine World Championship titles.
