World TrailO Championships: PreO golds to Sweden and Norway
Posted on | July 17, 2017 | Category: Arena, News

Two previous champions won the gold medals in the 2-day PreO competition: Ola Jansson, Sweden and Lars Jacob Waaler, Norway.
Ola Jansson now has four gold medals to his name, winning the Paralympic class in the Championships in Lithuania by 1 point overall, having achieved the best result on Day 2. He was not in the top six after Day 1, but all the Day 1 leaders faltered to a greater or lesser extent on Day 2’s complex open terrain with 28 controls.
Lars Jakob Waaler was TempO champion last year, and the win here was a perfect 50th birthday present. He too was not amongst the leaders after Day 1, and was in fact second on Day 2, dropping just one point. He finished with the same score overall as Pinja Mäkinen, Finland but a faster overall time at the timed controls.

After the pouring rain throughout Day 1 of the PreO, Day 2 was held in near-perfect conditions – some sun but a bit of breeze to keep the midges away.
Norway had a very good WTOC, with Vetle Ruud Bråten and Lars Jakob’s son Martin getting gold and silver respectively in the TempO, the teams taking silver and bronze in the Relay, and now the victory here.
Full results from the Championships are on IOF Eventor and www.wtoc2017.lt. Next year’s World TrailO Championships will be held at the end of July in Latvia, in conjunction with the World Orienteering Championships.
