World Orienteering Championships: Switzerland heads medals table

Switzerland was the most successful competing nation in Italy last week, winning three gold and four silver medals and one bronze medal. There were seven medal-winning nations in all.
Judith Wyder, Switzerland won the most medals as an individual athlete: gold in Sprint, bronze in Long and gold as a member of both the Swiss sprint relay and women’s relay teams.
On a points basis, counting 3 points for gold, 2 for silver and 1 for bronze, Sweden comes second in the medals table with two medals in each category, and Denmark third with one gold, three silver and two bronze – by a long way Denmark’s best-ever World Championships.
France, Norway and Russia each won one gold and one bronze, and the list is completed with Ukraine, a bronze medal in the Middle distance race.
