Thierry Gueorgiou, France won his fourth gold medal at Long Distance in five years in Glen Affric in Scotland today, and Ida Bobach crowned a fantastic week for Denmark with her first gold medal at senior level.
Ida Bobach had an almost faultless run technically to end with victory by 2.44. Silver medalist was Mari Fasting, Norway and the bronze went to last year’s champion at this distance, Svetlana Mironova, Russia. Tove Alexandersson showed strongly in the early stages, running in her only race of the week after suffering a foot injury, but could not quite sustain perfect technique and finished fourth.

In the men’s race, Thierry Gueorgiou and Daniel Hubmann were just 1 second apart after two-thirds of the race, but Hubmann lost more than 20 seconds between controls 23 and 25 and finished 25 seconds down to take the silver medal. Olav Lundanes of Norway was bronze medalist, 57 seconds slower than Gueorgiou. There were three Swiss and two French men on the podium.
This race ends this year’s World Championships. Denmark was the most successful nation with four gold medals, two individual and two relays, with Switzerland second and Sweden third.
