Updated Competition Rules for MTBO and TrailO

The Competition rules for IOF MTB Orienteering Events and IOF Trail Orienteering Events have been updated. The new set of rules are valid from 1 January 2019.

MTBO Changes

Significant changes to the previous version (January 2018)
These rules represent a revision of the January 2018 rules. Significant changes are noted below. References are to the 2019 rule numbers.
• 4.2 Extra text to define what happens if no applications are received in time
• 8.1 Last sentence removed (“Any changes to information published in the last Bulletin must be given in writing”) – see new sentence in 13.4
• 12.16 WMTBOC WCup The IOF MTBO Commission may provide one “wild card” to add a further top athlete without a sufficient number of ranking points into the Orange start group.
• 13.2 A maximum of 2 team officials per federation may take part in the team officials meeting. Subsequent rules renumbered.
• 13.4 If there are any changes decided at the meeting, they shall be published on the organiser’s website by 22.00 hours.
• 19.6 WMTBOC JWMTBOC WCup WMMTBOC Code numbers shall be clearly visible to competitors approaching the control from both directions. Subsequent rules renumbered.
• 20.5 Clarify that organiser is permitted to read the backup from a SPORTident control box. And allow a competitor to require the backup to be read on payment of a fee
• 20.6 Obsolete rule about control card checking deleted. Subsequent rule renumbered
• 24.12 Results must be published on the day. Applies to all level of event
• Appendix 10 EJMTBOC may be combined with EMTBOC or another event
• Appendix 11 EYMTBOC may be combined with EMTBOC or another event

TrailO Changes

Significant changes to the previous version (January 2018)
Rule references are to the new January 2019 rules (unless otherwise stated).
• 4.2 Extra text to define what happens if no applications are received in time.
• 16.8 WTOC Changes to number of PreO timed control stations and tasks.
• 16.9 WTOC Changes to number of TempO control stations and tasks.
• 16.10 The number of control markers for each timed control shall be 6.
• 20.10 If skipped controls are detected they are marked as invalid.
• 21.5 Competitors shall not use or carry telecommunication equipment in the competition area.
• Appendix 1 3.3.2 “The decision points must be visited by the competitors in the given order” deleted.
• Appendix 5 renamed Regional Trail Orienteering Championships and includes the Asian Championships.
