Twenty-seven nations qualify in long distance

Twenty-seven nations will be represented in the long distance finals on Wednesday, following the qualification races held yesterday.
Six nations enjoyed the success of having all their runners qualify: France, Finland, Norway, Russia, Sweden and Switzerland. The Czech Republic, Great Britain, Latvia and Lithuania had 5 runners qualify from their 6 participants. In addition, all 3 Spanish women qualified, and all 3 Ukrainian men.
Winners of the women’s heats, who will be the last starters in the finals, were Dana Brozkova CZE, Signe Soes DEN and Minna Kauppi FIN. The three French entrants, Phillippe Adamski, Francois Gonon and Thierry Gueorgiou, all won their respective heats and will be split by the second finishers in the heats for the finals.
The most unlucky runners in the heats, with regard to qualifying, were Adam Kovacs HUN and Wolfgang Siegert AUT, both just 4 seconds outside qualifying time.
