The spotlight is turning now from the World Orienteering Championships in Italy to the Junior equivalent, where the host nation for the coming week is Bulgaria. The Event Centre is the tourist resort of Borovets, close to Rila Mountain and Bulgaria’s capital Sofia.
Bulgaria is ready to welcome the 156 men and 134 women who together with 76 team officials will represent the thirty-six nations entered for the Championships. These start with the Sprint race and Opening Ceremony on Tuesday and end with the Relay on Sunday. The Sprint will take place in the centre of Samokov town, with both urban and parkland terrain on the courses.
After that the competitions move to the hilly forests in the area. The Long distance will be held in pine forest terrain between 1300 and 1750 metres above sea level, the Middle Qualification and Final in hilly mixed forest with many areas of small contour detail at a height of 900-1000 metres, and the Relay lower down, in moderately hilly pine forest close to the Event Centre.
Reports and leading results will be posted on this website after each race, and more detailed information can be found on the event website (link from logo on right-hand edge of this page).
