Simone Niggli, Switzerland, won the third and last individual distance, Sprint, at the European Orienteering Championships 2012 today. A winner of both Middle distance on Thursday and Long distance yesterday, Niggli finished 32 seconds ahead of Sweden’s Lena Eliasson. Anne Margarethe Hausken Nordberg finished third but was disqualified for crossing a fence that was marked impassable. As a result, Denmark’s Maja Alm took the third spot on the podium. Switzerland had a total of three runners in the top five with Judith Wyder and Rahel Friedrich finishing fourth and fifth before last year’s Junior World Championship silver medalist Emma Klingenberg, Denmark.
Interviews from the sprint will be published in Around the Arena on the IOF frontpage.
