The World Games motivated to train – Andrey Khramov

Posted on | August 3, 2013 | Category: Arena

You all saw it at The World Games sprint today: Andrey Khramov came “from nowhere”, and ran to a second place, beating World Championships medallists and other tough names. What happened, and where has he been the rest of the season? We decided to find out!

Of course, Khramov is not coming from nowhere in a broader sense. He has six World Champion titles, and he was the reigning World Games champion in sprint. But he has not been seen in the beginning of the season internationally.

“I had lost the spirit, the motivation to train hard”, Andrey tells. “I had no will to put so much energy and money on this; I just had lost the hunger.” That is why he was not in a very good shape in the beginning of the year at all. It all changed, however, when Andrey heard he was selected to the Russian World Games team: “That was the motivation I needed: a good performance at The World Games was something I really wanted to achieve. Suddenly I had the motivation again!” He trained very hard for two months, and the result so far: a silver medal in the sprint! Amazing, some would say, but according to Andrey it was “good allright, but it was no gold”.

Andrey says he made “zero mistakes” in the race, and he felt physically good, but got tired towards the end. Tomorrow (Saturday) he will continue the same way – zero mistakes, good speed – “and then we’ll see what the result is”. In the Sprint relay on Sunday his goal is that Russia is among the top three. Four years ago in Kaohsiung the Russian team won the relay, but Andrey is the only one of that team who is present here in Cali, Colombia, this year.
