Andrey Khramov has The World Games as his big goal this year. Today he got the gold he wanted, and there are still two races left in the orienteering part of the big multi-sport games.

– It wasn’t easy at all and I made some small mistakes. Maybe I lost 20-25 seconds in all, says the Russian. He has won gold in long, relay and middle formats in World Championships, and this year The World Games is his big goal. – But I will be on the start line at the World Championships as well, he smiles.

Battle of two men

As has been common in recent big sprint races, two men were faster than everybody else. Just as at the World Championships last year, the gap between the best two was very tiny. Here, the difference between Khramov and Daniel Hubmann from Switzerland was just 1.6 seconds.

– I lost maybe a couple of seconds at the start when I didn’t take pick up the map cleanly. Apart from that, I am satisfied with my race, says Daniel.

From Hubmann to Tero Föhr, Finland, in third place the gap was 33.7 seconds. That’s a lot in sprint. But as in the second World Cup race this year and World Championships last year there was a huge gap from the two best, Khramov and Hubmann, to the next one.

– How do you manage to do well in all the big races, Andrey?

– That’s the big secret, smiles the Russian, and then smiles even more broadly: – There are times when I don’t know what is happening in my head….
