The Danes: this is only the start!

Denmark had a fantastic start to the World Championships. In a period of just one hour they fulfilled their goal for these Championships.

Gold to Søren Bobach, bronze to both Maja Alm and Tue Lassen. Three medals: that’s what they originally wanted from the whole Championships!

“Our goal was much higher than we have achieved earlier. At any previous World Championships we have taken only one medal, not more”, says Lars Lindström, the national coach. So the Danes have fulfilled their goal and could have gone home, but of course they will continue and are aiming for more medals – perhaps already in the Sprint Relay today.

The Danes now have a lot of great runners, and yet one of the big heroes this year is missing. Signe Søes decided to stop her career just some days after she won gold in the Middle distance at the European Championships in Portugal.

“I had been working with two different teams for WOC – one with Signe and one without her – when she called me and told me about her decision”, Lindström says. On the same evening she was honoured by her club Pan Århus for her achievement in Portugal, and there her decision was made public.
