Tarasenko: “No time for relaxing”

Posted on | February 10, 2015 | Category: Arena

Iuliia Tarasenko felt some stress before start, then got a good feeling in the forest, but couldn’t take it easy. In the end she and her team-mate Andrey Lamov climbed up to the highest step on the prize-giving podium.

Russia got a very good start at the World Championships, being staged close to Elverum and Hamar in Norway, and it was a big step forward from the championships in Kazakhstan two years ago when it ended with fifth place.

“When I had started and was out in the forest I felt calm, but there was no chance to relax. It was very difficult with a lot of tracks”, Iuliia says. Both she and Andrey Lamov navigated very well and won 45 seconds ahead of Finland. “I’m feeling very happy”, Iuliia says. “It’s good with the victory. I have been missing gold from Sprint Relay and Middle Distance before these championships. Now I have got the Sprint”.

Lamov had expected it to be even more challenging. “The orienteering was easier than I thought it would be beforehand”. He is feeling strong and that gives hope for a lot of medals for the Russians. He is taking part in everything and wants to fight for gold on every distance.

“I hope to achieve good results too. Top three would have been good”, Iuliia says.

The championships continue tomorrow with the first individual race – the Sprint.
