Spectator-friendly World Ski Orienteering Championships with new participating nations

The World Ski Orienteering Championships take place 20-28 March in Tänndalen, Sweden. These events have been planned to be extremely spectator-friendly: All the top skiers will be carrying GPS trackers, making it possible for the audience to follow their route choices through the forest on the big screen at the arena. There will also be live online TV coverage from all the competitions.
So far there are 32 countries from four continents entered to the World Ski Orienteering Championships. After the very successful Asian Winter Games there will be at least two new Asian countries participating in the events in Sweden: Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia. Other interesting “new” countries at the World Championships are Australia, Great Britain, Hungary, New Zealand, and Spain.
The events will kick off on Tuesday 22 March with Sprint. Middle distance, Sprint relay, Long distance and traditional Relay take place later in the same week. Online results and live TV can be watched at www.skiwoc2011.com, and news and interviews from the championships will be published on the IOF website throughout the week.
The Junior World Ski Orienteering Championships were organised earlier this year in Norway.
