Ski Orienteering World Cup: Reenaas and Tunis best at Long distance

Marte Reenaas, Norway and Staffan Tunis, Finland were the first into the finish and therefore European Champions in the mass-start Long distance races today, subject to official confirmation of the results. This was Reenaas’s second victory of this World Cup campaign (both at Long distance), whilst for Tunis it is his first; he was second-placed after Andrey Grigoriev in the Long distance race in Bulgaria.
Marte Reenaas’s win was less convincing than her earlier one. This time the margin was just 7 seconds ahead of Liisa Anttila, Finland. Yesterday’s winner Tatiana Vlasova came in third, 9 seconds behind Anttila.
Eduard Khrennikov, Russia continues to lead the men’s World Cup standings after coming second to Tunis today, 4 seconds short of 2 minutes down; an emphatic victory there for Staffan Tunis. Andrey Grigoriev, Russia was in third place today, coming in 12 seconds after Khrennikov. The Swiss competitor Christian Spoerry had a fine race to come fifth.
Junior World Champions in today’s JWOC Long distance race were the same as at Middle distance yesterday: Barbro Kvåle, Norway and Mikhail Utkin, Russia.
