Revision of the International Specification for Orienteering Maps

The IOF Map Commission has an ongoing project to update the International Specification for Orienteering Maps (ISOM).
In the autumn of 2008, all national federations were invited to provide the first input to the ISOM revision. Input was received that autumn and in early 2009.
The next step is the second consultation with the federations. The IOF Map Commission’s plan is to first consult with a reference group, and after that, in summer/autumn 2012, initiate the second consultation round with the federations.
The progress of the project so far:
1) Collection and structuring of the input from the first call. Initial discussions within the Commission. Some test prints have been made to investigate proposed changes.
2) A colour project is in progress in cooperation with the Swiss Orienteering federation. Test prints have been made, and experts have been hired to make investigations into colour systems.
3) Putting together a reference group for the revision.
4) Initial work on issues for colour deficient orienteers (collecting names for a colour reference group, investigations into colour deficiencies).
