Procedure for WMTBOC Long distance start slot allocation published

The IOF Council has in the recent Helsinki meeting decided to approve the revised procedure for allocating World MTB Orienteering Championships Long distance start slots. The main motivation for the revision was that the old system did not allow the flexibility to allocate start slots to quickly developing overseas nations unable to take part in the World Championships every year. A call for comments from national federations was organized in February 2014 after which the proposal by the IOF MTB Orienteering Commission was approved with the following modifications:
- The World Ranking standings of one month (instead of two months) before the Long distance final will be used in step 5 of the allocation procedure.
- If a nation withdraws all their qualified riders before the draw of the A-Final (e.g. due to injury), they shall get a start slot the same way as non-qualified nations.
- The winner of the B-Final qualifies for next year’s A-Final.
The new allocation procedure will be implemented already at the World MTB Orienteering Championship 2014 in Bialystok, Poland. The full description of the procedure can be downloaded here.
