The 74th member of the IOF, Azerbaijan, is taking part in the World Championships for the first time and the runners are very eager to do well. They also look forward to making fast progress.
There was nobody from the European country that managed to get to the Middle final, but the runners aren’t that experienced. “I have been orienteering for only a short time. I have taken part in cross-country running and was asked to try orienteering. I like the sport”, Faig Baghirov, who ran 800 m at the Sydney Olympic Games for Azerbaijan, tells.
There are two women and two men taking part from Azerbaijan, and there are also eager journalists from the country. “I am reporting every day and I am not only writing about our runners, but also those who do best”, journalist Karimae Ruhin says. He is reporting to different media.

Baghirov is really looking forward to his future as an orienteer. “Now we are gathering experience and getting knowledge about how to do things. In Azerbaijan we have a lot of different terrains and next year I will be in the Final”, he smiles.
