Posted on | May 2, 2016 | Category: Arena, News

Nadiya Volynska was one of three smiling girls in third place at the first Sprint race in the World Cup. She enjoyed it, but the Ukraine likes one thing even better.

The Ukraine shared third place with Tove Alexandersson and Marika Teini. “It was fine”, she smiles, and continues: “but it’s even better to take it alone”.

The girls in third place were 29 seconds behind the winner Judith Wyder on the 3.5 kilometre course with 22 controls.

Home in the new country

Volynska was happy to see her level; she is where she wants to be. The biggest goal for the year is in fact a bit on home ground. “Since 2008 I have been living in Sweden”, she says. Nadiya has got used to the Swedish terrain and knows what’s coming up at WOC. She lives in Rödeby, close to Karlskrona in the south-eastern part of the country. Strömstad is in the south-western part of Sweden.

The goal for August

– What do you want to achieve at WOC?

“I want to fight for gold. I’m missing that”.

Volynska had been working as a teacher, but since 2014 she has been a full-time sportswoman and has concentrated wholly on getting better and better with map and compass.
