MTB orienteers ready for World Cup Final in Italy

Mountain Bike Orienteering World Cup, which was re-introduced this year after a break of six years, comprises of four rounds with altogether ten individual events and three relays. After three rounds the competition is extremely tight in the women’s class, where only three points separate the leader, Christine Schaffner, Switzerland, from Michaela Gigon, Austria, who currently holds the second place. Marika Hara, Finland, is third in the standings before the final races.
In the men’s class Erik Skovgaard Knudsen’s (DEN) lead is 30 points to Beat Schaffner, Switzerland, on second place. Long distance World Champion Anton Foliforov, Russia, is currently third.
Mountain Bike Orienteering World Cup Final round takes place in Teolo, Italy, 18-20 September.The individual competitions are held in the weekend: sprint on Saturday and Middle distance on Sunday. The World Cup 2010 ends with a mixed relay on Monday 20 September.
