MTB Orienteering World Cup: overall wins for Hara and Foliforov
Posted on | October 12, 2013 | Category: News
Today’s Long distance race was the last individual race in the World Cup calendar, and it was a success day in particular for Anton Foliforov, Russia and Marika Hara, Finland, both of whom did well enough today to claim overall victory, even though neither of them was victorious on the day.
Marika Hara, 4 points down on Cecilia Thomasson (Sweden) before the race, was third-placed today behind Susanna Laurila (Finland) and Laure Coupat (France). However Cecilia Thomasson could manage only 14th place on the 23.9 km course (optimal route 32.2 km), which put her into second place in the overall standings with Susanna Laurila in third.
Anton Foliforov could not match a superb ride on the men’s course of 31.7 km (44.6 by the best route) by Kryštof Bogar, Czech Republic and had to settle for second place today, 2 minutes 35 seconds down. Foliforov led the standings before today’s race and came out ahead at the end by 19 points as his closest challenger, Estonia’s Tõnis Erm, finished in 8th position in the race. Jussi Laurila, Finland was third in the race and finished second in the overall standings, with Kryštof Bogar on third place.
The World Cup season finishes tomorrow with a mixed urban relay.
