In the European Championships Sprint Nadiya Volynska won her first European or World Championships medal, but it was not her first international medal.
“I got a medal at the middle distance at The World Games in Colombia last year. That was very big for my country”, she says.
Her medal in Portugal was the very first European or World Orienteering Championships medal for a female athlete in Ukraine ever. The 30-year-old Ukrainian took a big step forward with the silver medal, but it wasn’t so obvious beforehand that she would achieve such a good result:
“I haven’t prepared so well technically for this season as I did for the previous season”, she says. The reason is that she is working a bit more than half time now.
What is your goal in the World Championships in Italy?
“It is a secret”, she smiles.
So far, Volynska’s best individual result from the World Championships is an 11th place.
