Member Federations meet and discuss at Presidents’ Conference

Posted on | July 6, 2017 | Category: News

Whilst the athletes enjoyed a well-deserved rest day, yesterday the Member Federations of the IOF gathered for the biannual IOF Presidents’ Conference. The IOF Council gave an update on their work, and looked ahead to the General Assembly in 2018.

Opening the meeting, IOF President Leho Haldna gave a presentation updating the members on what the council has been working with, speaking frankly about challenges the IOF faces and about finding the way forward.

At the General Assembly in 2018, the IOF General Assembly will decide on new Strategic Directions. The work started to develop these a year ago, and Senior Vice President Astrid Waaler Kaas presented a summary of the status of the project so far, after the first rounds of consultation. The issue of simplification versus detail was discussed, as well as what format the vision of the IOF should take.

Switching focus to the FootO event calendar, Council Member Nik Suter gave a look at the plans for the World Cup in the future, as well as the progress in the development of the third format for the Sprint WOC. It was stressed that simplification was key, and that this should be a format that can be organised on many different levels, from club level to WOC.

The IOF Environment Commission’s work with developing a Sustainability Policy was presented by Council Member Maria Silvia Viti, inviting all members to respond to the consultation paper on the topic.

Finally, an update on the IOF Anti-Doping work was presented. Member Federations were updated on the progress of strategy implementation, testing, results management, WADA Compliance etc. Challenges were discussed, not least financial issues, and the IOF’s place in the international Anti-Doping context.
