Martins Sirmais: “Top ten is the goal”

Four years ago Martins Sirmais won a silver medal on the Middle distance in the European Orienteering Championships. This year the Latvian is setting his sights a bit lower.
“I will be satisfied with being among the ten best”, he says. In the qualification he was fourth in his heat, 50 seconds after Johan Runesson. “It’s said that the terrain is very similar to terrain in the Baltic, and that’s a plus, but there are other factors to consider too”, he says.
The experienced Latvian had the Championships on home ground when he was second to Thierry Gueorgiou in the Middle distance four years ago. Two years ago the European Championships were in Bulgaria.
