Martin Jullum, Norway became TempO World Champion on the first day of the World Trail Orienteering Championships, with Finland showing strength in depth in taking the next three places.
The competition consisted of a qualification round, and then a final round for the best from the qualification, with the scores for both rounds taken into account for the final result. The outcome was in doubt right to the end, but the final margin of victory for Jullum was almost 30 points.
The silver and bronze medals went to the Finns Lauri Kontkanen and last year’s world champion Pinja Mäkinen.
The TrailO Championships continue with the first round of the PreO competition on Wednesday.
