Maja Alm: “A dream of many years come true”

Posted on | August 2, 2015 | Category: Arena

When Maja Alm won her second gold in a little bit less than 24 hours it was something she has been training for and seeking for a very long time.

“An individual gold has been the dream all the time I have done orienteering. It’s a bit unbelievable when I now got it”, she says. When the Dane got the victory it was with a big margin. 39.8 seconds was the difference to Nadiya Volynska from Ukraine in second place.

“It’s really one of my best races ever. I ran carefully and had control all the time. There was no mistake at all during the race”, she says.

Maja has for some years been one of the very best and this year she is even better than ever. “On Sprint I have lifted my level. For a period I had to run on paths; in fact that was positive for my running”.

On Saturday she had the last leg on the winning Danish team. There she was also running incredibly and she was the favourite before the first individual final at WOC in Scotland. The expectations on her grew even more when two of the hardest challengers for her didn’t take part. Both Judith Wyder, last year’s winner, and Tove Alexandersson, didn’t take part. The Swede has an injury in one of her feet and it’s not sure how much she will take part in the championships.

For Alm there are two races left. “I will run Middle Distance and Relay”.

– And the goals?

“In the Middle I want to be among the ten best. On the Relay a medal is the goal”.
