Lundanes needs time out

The Norwegian double World Champion Olav Lundanes is not present at the races in the Nordic Tour. He is tired. On Monday this week Lundanes was selected for the Norwegian team for the first two races in NORT. Two days later the decision was taken that he won’t take part at all. “He needs to rest”, says Petter Thoresen, the Norwegian team captain.

Lundanes won the long distance at WOC both in 2010 and 2012 and he has had a big ambition to increase his level, especially at middle distance, this season. But he hasn’t done the training he has wanted to.

Especially in February and March he had a lot sick days and didn’t train well at all. April was much better in training, but at Tiomila it showed that he was still missing strength. Thierry Gueorgiou both caught him up and ran away from him on the last leg. The difference in leg time was almost six minutes.

A bit after Tiomila the Norwegian became sick again and he didn’t take part in the two first selection races two weeks ago. One week ago he ran two races in Norway and he was very happy after the second competition. “Now it’s going much better. My body is recovering like it should after races”, he said.

But three days later there was agreement that he should rest and not take part in the start of the second period of World Cup races this year. The 25-year-old is the only Norwegian so far pre-selected for the team to WOC in Finland in July. He lives in Halden, but is for the moment at his parents’ home close to Ålesund in the western part of Norway.
