Sweden’s women and Finland’s men took the golds in the final race of the Junior World Orienteering Championships, the Relay, at Rauland, Norway today.
The women’s race was at times a dramatic affair with the lead changing hands several times before the race was decided. Norway 2 led the race at the two change-overs, and Switzerland was contending strongly for the lead at one point before Sara Hagström, Sweden, anchored her team home in convincing fashion for a clear victory by 2.47. Switzerland edged ahead of Norway by 5 seconds to take the silver medals.
In the men’s race, Finland led throughout and finished 1.23 ahead of Norway, with Olli Ojanaho bringing his team to the finish with a final lead of 1.23. In a close-fought race between the two, Norway took the silver medals and Sweden the bronze.
