Junior World Ski Orienteering Championships: Gold medals for Svensson and Kashchuk

The Middle Distance race took place at Sportgastein in fair conditions after a day’s delay, with Eva Svensson, Sweden getting back to gold medal-winning ways after ‘only’ getting bronze in the sprint.
The young Swedish star took the gold medal by 34 seconds over the Russian Olga Trifanova, with third place being taken by Helene Söderlund, Sweden, silver medallist in the sprint.
The men’s silver medallist in sprint, Taras Kashchuk from Russia, went one better at middle distance, winning by the big margin of 1½ minutes from Ove Sätra of Norway. Two seconds slower in bronze medal position was Sweden’s Thomas Carlsson.
Sweden took three medals for the second race day in succession, and had three in the first six in the men’s race – impressive!
