Canada got its first ever medal at Junior World Orienteering Championships, when the young promising Canadian Emily Kemp won bronze on the long distance race in Slovakia today. Kemp was 2.59 behind the winner, Kirsi Nurmi from Finland. Yesterday’s bronze medallist, Frida Sandberg (SWE) was today second best.
Tove Alexandersson, sprint winner, was fastest today too to most of the controls. However, she made a huge mistake to the 10th control and lost over 15 minutes on that leg! At the end she finished 22nd, 10 minutes behind the winner.
In the junior men’s class, sprint bronze medallist Eskil Kinneberg (NOR) was the best on long distance. He was nearly two minutes faster than silver medallist Marius Thrane Odum, who led in the beginning but then made several mistakes. Bronze medal went to sprint winner Gleb Tikhonov, Russia.
