Junior World Orienteering Championships: Martin wants to run relays with his brother
Posted on | July 10, 2009 | Category: News
Martin Hubmann isn’t sure whether he can ever beat his older brother Daniel, but he hopes they can run relays together in the national team.
-I don’t know if I’ll ever manage to be as good as him, but one thing I’d like would be to run in a same relay team with him, Martin says.
The youngest brother of the world star Daniel Hubmann won one of the qualification heats on the middle distance. The 20-year-old Swiss has also got two bronze medals so far in the Junior World Championships in Italy. Two years ago he got bronze on the middle distance at JWOC in Australia. Now he is one of the favourites in the final.
-I will concentrate on the technique to avoid any mistakes, Martin says. The middle final is supposed to be technically very challenging.
Until last year, Martin trained often with his brother Daniel, who has won Junior World Championships on both long distance and relay. Now Daniel lives in Bern while Martin still lives in Eschlikon, just 50 kilometer from Zurich.
-Do you learn something from him?
-Yes, we often discuss how to run in different competitions and terrains. In fact I hope Daniel also learns something from me, Martin smiles.
