Posted on | July 5, 2013 | Category: News

Newly-crowned Sprint Junior World Champions are Heidi Mårtensson, Norway and Florian Schneider, Switzerland. The medals were divided between six different nations, including a bronze for Belarus.
In the women’s race the gap between first and second was 12 seconds. The winner, who is the daughter of Swedish legend Jørgen Mårtensson, is well-known as a fast runner and had a near-perfect race today. Nicoline Friberg Klysner, Denmark took the silver medal. Belarus will be extremely delighted with the performance of Anastasia Denisova who took the bronze medal, 3 seconds down on Klysner.
Florian Schneider was silver medallist at Long distance earlier in the week, and he showed his versatility with a fine run today to win by 4 seconds. The home crowd had plenty to cheer, though, with Michal Hubáček finishing in silver medal position. Third was Tim Robertson, New Zealand, who will be heading for the World Championships in Finland after the relay tomorrow. He was 8 seconds slower than the Czech runner.
The final race of the Championships, the relay, is tomorrow.
