Junior World Championships: Middle qualification – six heats, winners from six nations
Posted on | July 2, 2013 | Category: News
The fastest in today’s Middle distance qualification heats were from six nations: Denmark, France, Great Britain, Latvia, Norway and Sweden.
One of them is the new Long distance world champion, Lisa Risby from Sweden, who clearly didn’t celebrate too wildly last night. The fastest heat time amongst the women was set by Lucy Butt, Great Britain, and the third women’s winner was Isia Basset, France, who was fourth in yesterday’s Long distance race.
Fastest overall in the men’s heats was Thor Nørskov, Denmark. In his heat, Long distance winner Piotr Parfianowicz from Poland was fourth. The other men’s heat winners were Rudolfs Zernis from Latvia and Sindre Ronning Huber, Norway.
The fastest 20 from each heat go through to tomorrow’s finals, meaning there are 60 runners in each of the women’s and men’s finals. Unluckiest runner today was Brodie Nankervis from Australia, running in his second JWOC, who failed to qualify in his heat by just one second.
The Women’s Final tomorrow is between 11.30 and 14.00, and the Men’s Final starts at 13.45 and will reach its climax at around 16.15. The race can be followed live on www.jwoc2013.cz. There will be live tracking of all the A-finalists, and the race will be broadcast on Czech TV.
