Tove Alexandersson was well down on the lead when passing the finish arena, after almost half the course of the fourth individual race in this year’s World Cup, but the Swede could smile at the end.
After 3.7 km of the 8.2 kilometre course with mass start at Gåsbu, close to Hamar, in Norway, Tove Alexandersson was in 14th position. The gap from the leader Tatyana Rvacheva was 2.43 minutes.
– How much did it affect you to be so much behind?
“I try to avoid hearing messages, I just focus on my race”, she said.
There was some difference in the forking and in the last part of the race the top Swede was in front of everybody else; Tove finished 70 seconds ahead of Tatyana Rvacheva.
“I made one mistake on one control, and I had also a not-so-good route choice, but I enjoyed the race a lot. It was technically challenging which is what I like. There was a big variety in the tracks: there were both small tracks and big tracks. This is what I enjoy”, said the all-year-round top athlete. Last summer she was number two overall in the foot orienteering World Cup.
