“I can hardly believe it”

The World Championships in Ski Orienteering just north west of Moscow ended with another incredible day for Russia. Just as expected it was gold for both the women and the men in the relay.
The Russian head coach Alexander Bliznevsky was, of course, very happy but also a bit surprised.
– Just now I can hardly believe that we have taken all the gold medals. Maybe I will believe it in a couple of days, he says.
In both the women’s and men’s races Russia was in front all the way and the last runners were Tatiana Vlasova and Eduard Khrennikov. They both finished the championships with four gold. That’s the first time in history that runners have taken all four gold medals in a World Championship in Ski Orienteering. In foot orienteering the Swiss Simone Niggli has managed to do that a couple of times.
– I am very happy, says Tatiana.
– When I had won two golds it became a goal to get four, says Eduard.
Both ended up with the prize money.
– It has been said that every individual gold is worth 3000 US dollar, but after all the gold I don’t know how much it will be, smiles Eduard.
In the men’s class Sweden came second and the Swiss team took the bronze medal. In the women’s class there were no surprises with Finland taking silver and Sweden bronze.

Bronze in the women’s race went to the Swedes Åsa Zetterberg-Eriksson, Anna Holmgren and Erica Johansson.
