Gold medals for Finland and Russia in Trail Orienteering Championships
Posted on | August 17, 2011 | Category: News

Dmitry Kucherenko, Russia had a second good day in the Trail Orienteering Championships and came out overall winner today in the Paralympic class. It was by a very fine margin, however; Soren Saxtorph, Denmark, bronze medallist last year, had an even better day and ended with the same points score overall and was just 6 seconds longer at the timed controls. He therefore takes the silver medal, and the bronze goes to Inga Gunnarsson, Sweden with the same score but a significantly longer time.
The gold medal in the Open class was won by Lauri Kontkanen, Finland with 43 points out of a total possible 44, and a time at the timed controls of 48.5 seconds, the best score overall. Another Finnish competitor, Antti Rusanen, is in silver medal position with the same score and a time of 85 seconds, and bronze medallist is Ivo Tisljar, Croatia, again the same score + 115 seconds.
In the team competition the winners were Finland, in second place Norway, third Sweden, fourth Great Britain, fifth Denmark, and sixth Japan.
Tomorrow the unofficial World TempO Trophy will be held at the same venue as today’s event.
